Rising Sun Super-MAT translations, which by the way are internally checked, are of nigh-on human standard translation quality. As a result of an in-house program of continual and on-going translation software development, which has now been in progress for ten years, Rising Sun is continuing to expand its sales and supply of these Super-MATS to Patent Attorneys. These Super-MATS are supplied not only for Japanese unexamined and examined specifications, but also for Japanese language PCT applications and Priority Documents.
As of February 2009, all Super-MATS come with all Superscripts and Subscripts in the English translation present as per the original Japanese. Further, the names of all compounds synthesised in Examples and which form headings in the original Japanese, are bookmarked in the English pdf product.
Introduction
Rising Sun's unique range of Super-MAT products covers ALL Japanese language (bio)chemical World Patents regardless of whether they have been republished or not. We can continually provide Super-MATS of JP granted and unexamined specifications with publication dates within 4-5 days of the current date. Working from scans as well as digital text means Rising Sun can provide Super-MATS of both PCT priority documents and Japanese Patent Applications prior to them being "laid-open" when supplied.
Brief Background
The Rising Sun Translation Software was originally developed to machine the Claims and Examples sections of Japanese patents. These are the areas where it has always produced outstanding results, but as time has progressed we have managed to produce the same excellent quality for an ever increasingly larger proportion of patent texts. In the Super-MAT Post-Editing Step, human intellectual endeavour bridges the gap between what Rising Sun's computer programming can achieve and the needs for example of a Patent Agent.
The standard of our Post-Edited Machine Translation Products have greatly increased over the years, so here are some examples of our work to the illustrate the MINIMUM standards a client could expect over time as time has progressed.
The State of Play - Back in September 2003 - The differences between a Rising Sun Lightly-Edited Machine Translation and the Post-Edited Product in 2003
We have posted a demonstration copy of both a Rising Sun Lightly-Edited Machine Translation and a Rising Sun Post-Edited Machine Translation of a long patent, namely WO03/00657, to give an indication of the quality that a client might now expect (September 2003) from the two product standards. The fee would have been US$2750 for the Machine Translation and US$9000 for the Post-Edited Machine Translation (the book price is $13968, however Rising Sun applies a discount for long documents).
Because of the size of the translation, we have split the patent into more manageable parts, namely, the Body section (excluding examples), the Examples and the Claims. (An estimation of the size of this translation is given by the fact that the English word count by word processor is in excess of 130,000 words).

The following comprises an Example of a POST-EDITED Machine Translation of the whole text of a PCT.
An Early Example of Post-Edited Machine Translation of a Molecular Biology PCT
This example (WO00/20580/click HERE to download in pdf format) shows the standard a client could expect (in May 2001) when they ordered a Post-Edited Machine Translation from Rising Sun. WO00/20580 by Takeda Chemical Industries Ltd. relates to a subject of interest at the current time, namely G protein-coupled receptor proteins. The fee for this translation would have been US$1079 and the target delivery date for a job such as this would normally be 5 working days. Unless requested for inclusion in a translation, clients are not charged for pages or Figures where there is no Japanese text. By default, the title page and second page (Japanese language abstract) are not translated. By design, otherwise all formula, equations, tables and figures are in the correct place as per the Japanese original.

The next example (WO99/12918/click HERE to download in pdf format) is an example of a Rising Sun Post-Edited Machine Translation which we posted on our web site in the summer of 2000. The quality is not quite as good as in WO 00/20580, reflecting the improvements in translation software achieved over the year.
